From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading the secret base, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.
